The
standard of living in Australia is generally high and Adelaide
is no exception. In fact, because of the lower cost of living in
South Australia in comparison
to Victoria and New South Wales, housing is cheaper and better value
for money. The majority of South Australians
own their own home and there are very few large high-rise blocks
of flats. Ground floor "units" or townhouses take care
of the need for smaller housing. Strong awareness of pollution and
the need for conservation have resulted in a remarkably clean, pollution-free
city.
Adelaides
Jewish population is dispersed throughout the city, although
a large number tend to live near the two shuls which are located
in the more affluent Eastern suburbs. All suburbs which would be
acceptable housing for South Africans used to a certain standard
are only up to 20 minutes from the shul and the city.
Real
estate markets fluctuate, but adequate housing in areas close to
the shuls, community centre, Jewish Day School and city range from

Present mortgage (bond) rates are around 5.5% compared to 22% in
South Africa. The capital outlay of any purchase need only be a
