The
standard of education in South Australia
is high and there are a number of excellent single sex and co-educational
schools, both public and private. Massada
College is the Jewish Day School and runs from Kindergarten
to Year 7, the end of primary school.
Public
school fees are minimal and set by each school. The fee currently
is about $500 per year. Public schools are zoned for the students
in their assigned area.
Massada
College has selected a high school for its graduates and
the zoning then does not apply. Private school fees are currently
about $8,000 per annum. Zoning does not apply at all.
Compulsory
schooling in Australia is from age 5 to 15.
Kindergarten caters for children from age 3 to 5.
Primary school caters for ages 5 to 13, Reception to Year 7 (Standard
5).
Secondary
school follows from Year 8 (Standard 6) to Year 12 (Matriculation).
A student can choose to do a University Matriculation or a lower
level Matriculation. From Year 10, students are guided through their
subject choices to maximise their potential and requirements. Matriculation
is assessed on both internal and external examinations.
Schools
emphasise extra-curricular activities concentrating on the whole
child rather than only academic achievement. Sport, music, drama,
outdoor education, etc. are all part of the school program. Each
student is required to attend a school camp which concentrates on
the outdoors.
For
very young children there are a number of excellent day care centre
facilities.
