Adelaide
is the capital of South Australia
with a population of about one million. It lies 800 kilometres north
west of Melbourne and is on the coastal peninsula.
Adelaide
has all the advantages of a big city with none of its disadvantages.
It is known as the 20 minute city because:
-
You will never be stuck in traffic for more than 20 minutes
- Most
trips do not take more than 20 minutes
- You
can walk from one side of the city centre to the other in 20 minutes
Adelaide
lies between the Hills and the Sea on approximately the same latitude
as Cape Town with a very similar climate except for slightly higher
summer temperatures. It has a Mediterranean climate with winter
rainfall and sunny summers.
Melbourne
is within a days drive (similar to Johannesburg to Durban)
and Sydney is reached with an overnight stop (similar to Johannesburg
to Cape Town). There are hourly flights every day to all capital
cities as well as a good overnight railway connection.
There
are many weekend and holiday spots both along the coast and in the
hills that surround the City. The world-famous wine production areas
of Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale are within an hours drive.
The Hills provide the opportunity for great walking trails in the
many parks and many Sunday afternoons are spent picking apples,
cherries, and strawberries.
There
are lots of attractive parks in all suburbs and the City
of Adelaide is surrounded on four sides by a wide green
belt that cools the summer winds across the suburbs.
